Peggy Nixon was born and raised in Baltimore, Md. She holds a BA degree in Illustration from the Maryland Institute College of Art. After working for a few years in the Graphic Department at Dundalk Community College and in freelance illustration, including a children’s book, she turned her priorities to raising a family. In 1992 she and her husband and their 3 daughters moved to Garrett County, Md. Here in the quiet mountains, Peg found inspiration home-schooling her kids and spending time among the numerous birds and wildflowers. These things became familiar and have become her content and subject matter. So Peg began to paint on anything that didn’t move, including old roofing slate. It just seemed right to make something new out of something old, giving it a new life. She has developed a method of defining shapes to compliment designs, cutting and sanding the slate forms, and using acrylic paints for her finished pieces. From decorative seasonal designs to Fine Art matted and framed, her slate paintings reflect her love for nature and a philosophy for a simple life. Peg welcomes commissions and enjoys working with clients on custom designs. Commissions include portraits of homes and barns, garden stakes, and customized “welcome” and house number signs.
