Additional Information

Ann Jones' studio is inside and outside the Glotfelty House. The Glotfelty House was built in 1776 by blacksmith Solomon Glotfelty. Solomon traded 2000 hand forged roofing nails for the property on which this house was originally built.

Ann Jones' interest in fibers began at a young age. Simple hand-weaving at summer camp and encouragement of adult friends led her to art courses, workshops, and craft schools including Penland, Arrowmont, Seton Hill College, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Ann began working as a weaver at Penn Alps in 1975. Using her own handspun and dyed wools, Ann wove patterns from the American Colonial period. Soon she began experimenting with other types of yarns in more contemporary styles. An apprenticeship with a fiber artist gave Ann insight into developing her own style and building a weaving business.

Ann works on many different looms with a wide variety of fibers to create both contemporary and traditional forms. She enjoys combining colors and textures, using natural fibers such as cotton, silk, rayon, and alpaca, to create fabric for clothing, table coverings, and rugs. Ann has exhibited her work throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, and West Virginia. Shows include Three Rivers Festival, The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, Ohio Designer Craftsmen, Stonewall Jackson Jubilee, Springs Folk Festival, and Sugarloaf at Gaithersburg.
