September 20, 2014 from 9am to 4pm
Spruce Forest Artisan Village is sponsoring a day of painting on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 9am to 4pm. The Village is located in Grantsville, Maryland at the historic stone arch Casselman River Bridge and Penn Alps restaurant. The log cabins of the Village and fall scenery at the site offer many exciting vistas for painters.
Check-in time is 8:30 to 9am at the white church on the grounds. The registration fee is $25. Water and light refreshments will be provided for participating artists. Artists are asked to bring their own easels and a completed picture (does not have to be plein air) for awards. Voting for People’s Choice Awards is scheduled for 4pm on Saturday with awards taking place at 4:30 for previous work and work completed on the 20th.
Department of Natural Resource representative Aaron Thomas will conduct nature walks in the area around the bridge, which celebrated its 200th year anniversary in 2013 as the oldest stone arch bridge in western Maryland. The cabins of the Village, one room schoolhouse, Miller and Yoder Museums and resident artists will be open. Artists include metal art, woodturning, colored pencil, bird carving, pottery, weaving, as well as historical information. There is also a grist mill at the site.
